John Samson
A nature painter with work on view at ArtCenter Manatee's ComCenter Gallery in Lakewood Ranch, Samson acknowledges his debt to artists of the past:
"I would have to say that the artists that have influenced me the most are, Peter Paul Rubens, Raphael, Anthony Van Dyck, Sandro Botticelli and Michelangelo.
"They are my art heroes, for all have been trained to produce works of such meaning, and to depict these fantastic historical events, whether it be real or imaginary, that when you observe you feel you are part of the imagery. You are drawn into the depth of the paintings.
"The wondrous detail they are capable of producing, for example, within the folds of a robe. Such a delicate balance of color and light, great detail that one can only assume comes from the discipline of the training or the hand of God. In my opinion, it is both."
